This week it’s short and sweet…Chocolate Chilli Cupcakes
I made these by adapting a recipe from La Tartine Gourmande blog (http://www.latartinegourmande.com/). I used quinoa flour and organic chilli powder. They are really really addictive!
Alexa and Afghans
September 7, 2011

I found the best afghan recipe! And it’s very easy. Alexa Johnston has three amazing books of baking recipes, mostly sweet stuff but a few savoury things as well. They are full of really traditional New Zealand baking like lamingtons and home-made ginger kisses, which I love. She has some of her recipes online at www.ladiesaplate.co.nz. This Saturday (10th September), she is doing a book signing and demonstration event at Milly’s Kitchen (Ponsonby Road, Auckland) to promote her new book “What’s for pudding?” so head to the store to check it out!
Peanut Butter!
August 12, 2011
I absolutly love anything with Peanut Butter (embarrassing to the point where I will eat it off the spoon) so when my friend, Alex, told me about her enviable night drinking wine and making Peanut Butter Brownies! I had to get her to share with you.
Enjoy Alex! x

There’s nothing better than heading home with a bottle of wine and a friend after a long deserving day at work…followed by baking.
Jess invited me around for a few wines and a bit of baking on a Tuesday evening after work. She wasn’t sure what but she felt like baking and with a block of dark chocolate and a jar of peanut butter in her shopping bag we knew these ingredients were going to be involved.
So while she cooked dinner I searched the Internet for a good recipe. Naturally I went straight to my favourite website Smitten Kitchen (www.smittenkitchen.com) and typed in Peanut. A number of recipes popped up but my eye caught Peanut Butter Brownie straight away and I didn’t look much further after seeing the photo of the final product. It will suck you in!
After a much awaited hour or so the brownies were ready to be enjoyed. Amazing! Crispy outer shell with moist, soft brownie texture inside and topped with a thick layer of dark chocolate ganache.
This will definitely be a recipe I repeat in the future (weekend) ha!
Enjoy with herbal tea or a glass of milk x

Yoghurt Lemon and Poppyseed Muffins
July 28, 2011

Georgia – These are one of my favourite things I’ve made recently. I got the recipe off the smitten kitchen website (http://smittenkitchen.com/2010/01/poppy-seed-lemon-cake/) but changed the quantities around a little and added some real lemon juice too so they would be really lemony and moist. I also used HEAPS of poppy seeds because I like how they give the muffins a little crunch. The recipe called for a loaf but making mini muffins (or muffins) means you can give them as gifts which is what I like to do, especially because then I won’t eat them all myself!
Mandarin Ice Cream Sandwiches
July 17, 2011

Georgia – Most of my favourite food websites and blogs are written by people in North America and Europe so their seasons are opposite to ours and their latest recipes use fruits like nectarines and peaches, which are really expensive or unavailable here in New Zealand. One of the reasons I love www.trotski-ash.com is that it’s written by two women from Melbourne which means we have access to the same fresh produce as they do. Their latest post was for Mandarin Ice Cream Sandwiches and since I have an ice cream maker I had to make them! Even though it’s freezing outside. I think the ice cream would probably go better with a plainer biscuit like vanilla (the recipe was with chocolate biscuit sandwiches) as the flavours kind of over-ride each other. Still, the ice cream is delicious!
(Try making them yourself http://www.trotski-ash.com/2011/06/recipes/mandarin-ice-cream-sandwich/) xx
Introducing Georgia
July 9, 2011
I am so excited to introduce you to our first guest contributor! The lovely Georgia. I met Georgia through one of my special friends, Alex, who always told me about the dinner parties she would attend where Georgia would bring mouth watering deserts…peanut butter slice, homemade ginger kisses, layered lemon cake!
I wanted you to experience Georgia’s baking so she will be regularly posting pictures, access to the recipes she uses and what inspired her to bake (Follow us here on facebook and we will always let you know when her new posts are uploaded)
Enjoy Georgia, she’s fantastic!
To begin…Cocoa Banana Muffins x

Georgia – I made these after a friend told me how much his son loves chocolate muffins and gave some to him as a little present. They are pretty addictive because they are so light and chocolatey without being too rich (although I love rich chocolatey things too). My friend Melissa and I ate about four each with a cup of coffee! I got the recipe from “La Tartine Gourmande” website (http://www.latartinegourmande.com/2010/01/11/banana-hazelnut-cocoa-muffins/) which calls for flours that you can only really get at health food shops. But you can alter them with different types of flours (including regular flour) and if you can’t get hazelnut flour, you can also just use ground almonds, which is what I did. But of course if you’re up to it, ground up your own hazelnuts!
